A New Orleans-based conveyor belt maker plans to more than double the size of its southeast Louisiana plant next year, state and company officials announced.
Intralox will invest $60 million in the Hammond facility, which will produce modular plastic conveyor belts and components to be supplied to the company’s assembly plants around the world. These conveyor belts are used by customers in the food, industrial and e-commerce industries.
The project will add 300,000 square feet to Hammond’s current 130,000 square feet of operations and increase production by 50%. Intralox expects to create 425 new jobs at the plant, and Louisiana officials say the expansion will create more than 1,000 direct and indirect jobs.
Intralox has experienced significant growth over the past few years, and the project “allows us to quickly ramp up manufacturing and assembly capacity,” company executives said.
“We look forward to expanding our local workforce with the added benefit of meeting the growing needs of our global customers,” Intralox President Edel Blanks said in a statement.
Intralox will receive government incentives, including $1 million in infrastructure improvement grants and assistance from government job development programs. The expansion is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022.
